Tüm Dünya’da Galactor olarak bilinen yeni bir tehdit ortaya çıkar. Galactor’un güçlerine karşı savaşabilmek için ünlü bilim adamı Kouzaburou Nanbu, ninja sanatlarında çok yetenekli 5 gençten oluşan Science Ninja Team Gatchaman’i ortaya çıkartır.
Notlar:
1978 yılında, yapımcı Sandy Frank, Gatchaman’i lisansladı ve 1977’de Star Wars’la birlikte patlayan bilim kurgu sektörüne katmak amacıyla 105 bölümün 85’ini Battle of the Planets adıyla yayınladı. Ancak Amerikan TV standartlarına uyması için Sandy Frank, serinin neredeyse bütün şiddet içerikli sahnelerini çıkarttırdı. Boşlukları doldurmak için de Hana-Barbera, takımın maskot robotu ve hikâyenin anlatıcısı 7-Zark-7’ı içeren yeni sahneler yaratması için görevlendirildi. Sonuç olarak Sandy Frank, serinin Amerikan televizyonlarında gösterilebilmesi için söylentilere göre 1 milyon Dolar gibi bir para harcamak zorunda kaldı.
Şubat 2007 itibariyle, Sandy Frank’in 30 yıllık Batlle of the Planets lisansı da sona erdi.
Top Cow'un hazırladığı ve Amerika'ya özel yayınlanan Battle of the Planets çizgiromanının son sayılarında Amerika'da yayınlanan son dönem bölümlerinin Gatchaman'ın orijinal Japon serisiyle hiçbir alakasının olmamasının yanında, Thundercats karakterleri dahi hikâyede yer alıyordu. Elbette bunlar orijinal Japon versiyonunu asla etkilemeyen doldurma hikâyelerdi.
Choujin Sentai Jetman adlı bir sentai serisi, Gatchaman'dan oldukça alıntı yapılmış bir benzeridir.
Tite Kubo'nun popüler mangasından uyarlanan Bleach'in 213. bölümünde bir Gatchaman parodisi işlenmiştir (Karakura Raizer).
