Searchlight automatically detects the connectivity options of its clients. Therefore Windows and Linux users are provided with Windows File Sharing (SMB) links to access documents. Mac users get access through the Apple Filing Protocol (AFP). Searchlight propagates its service to your network through the Bonjour. When on the same local network, just open the iPhone App, and it will automatically detect all Searchlight servers within reach. On the desktop, just open Safari’s bookmarks and select “Bonjour” in “Collections,” and voila, all available Searchlight Servers show up and are only a click away.
