Shirou Emiya, küçükken ailesini kaybetmiş ve Kiritsugu Emiya tarafından evlat edinilmiş bir lise öğrencisidir. Aynı zamanda üvey babasının ona öğrettiği büyü gücüne sahiptir. Nevar ki dünyada uzun zamandır kendini tekrar eden Kutsal Kase (Holy Grail) Savaşından habersizdir. Oysa kendisi de bu savaşta yer alacak yedi büyücü ustasından biri olacaktır. Yardımcısı Saber ile eğer bu savaşı kazanırsa, efsaneye göre Kutsal Kase'ye sahip olacaktır.
